Almost a year ago, Home Affairs colt I’m Ya Huckleberry started favourite in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate only to go down by a neck to Incognito and until today he had not been back to the races since then.
Sidelined with an injury after his debut, I’m Ya Huckleberry has been given a steady build up for his return by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott with two trial wins through the month of July.
Sent out favourite for the 1200m maiden at Wyong on Sunday with Adam Hyeronimus to ride, I’m Ya Huckleberry was a class above.
He flew the gates and that was the last his rivals saw of him. The handsome bay strode along in the lead and then dashed again in the straight to win by two and a half lengths.
A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from Kia Ora for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing/Kestrel Thoroughbreds , I’m Ya Huckleberry has broken the ice and will no doubt be looking step back into stakes company.
I’m Ya Huckleberry is the second foal and first winner for Group III placed Exceed and Excel mare Key, a full sister to stakes-winner Oz Empress and grand-daughter of champion 3YO Filly Princess Coup.
Key was bought by Kia Ora for $600,000 from the Magic Millions Strawberry Hill Dispersal when in foal to Home Affairs with I’m Ya Huckleberry the result.
Kia Ora sold an I Am invincible filly from Key at Magic Millions this year for $1.2million and after slipping the next year she has produced a colt by I Am Invincible on August 21.
I’m Ya Huckleberry is the fifth winner this season for Home Affairs, who has jumped straight to the top of the Second Season Sires List.
Home Affairs stands at $176,000 this spring at Coolmore and is set to cover his best book of mares to date.
