It’s a first time at Magic Millions for both new vendor North and Golden Slipper winner Farnan and the two combined to smash it out of the park on Wednesday when the Farnan colt from Za Zi Ba sold for $800,000.
Kia Or Stud’s Farnan is enjoying strong results so far with 14 yearlings selling for $4,055,000 at an average $289,643 with this colt his highest sale so far.
The colt was purchased by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, who are looking for investors to go into the colt who is the second foal of stakes-placed Za Zi Ba, a half-sister to Group I ATC Epsom Handicap winner Rediener from the family of champion sire Snippets and Group I winning sprinter Private Eye.
It’s a family Gerald Ryan knows well as he bought Za Zi Ba as a yearling and trained her and also did the same with Snitzel.
“I like Farnan, I like that filly’s pedigree. We bought his mother Za Zi Ba as a yearling at Easter and we followed it all the way through and I just reckon it looks so much of a combination of both sire and dam’s family,” said Gerald Ryan.
“Snitzel is on the page and I’ve had a good bit of luck with that family. He was our pick and we thought we’d chase him.
“First season stallion, $800,000 is a lot of money Farnan is a Golden Slipper winner.
“No owners (yet), all on spec.”
The first foal from Za Zi Ba is an I Am Invincible filly that made $500,000 at this sale last year and is in work with Anthony and Sam Freedman as Nouveau.
North is the new farm for Mick Malone and his wife Pauline Alix, who were thrilled with this result and the sale so far having sold six yearlings for $1,965,000 with seven more to be offered.
The progeny of Farnan have been in strong demand with other big sales including $500,000 for a filly from Sexy Eyes bought by Suman Hedge Bloodstock and a colt from Sylpheed bought by TFI for $400,000.
Farnan has 18 more yearlings to sell in coming days.
