Never further back than fifth in her previous six starts, well-bred Farnan mare Farfetched played catch me if you can tactics in the third at Hawkesbury, breaking her maiden in fighting style with Rachel King in the saddle for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott yard.
Coming off a last start third at Canterbury over 1200m, the second favourite Farfetched appeared to appreciate the slight step up in trip on Tuesday to 1300m, with King jumping the mare away well from the outside gate of nine, going forward to take up the running.
Out by two lengths with 1000m to run, the Matthew Smith trained Kiss Of Gold was ensuring the leader didn’t get too far in front, while the Chirs Waller trained race favourite Gaultier was close up in third.
With a mid-race breather under her belt, Farfetched cornered for home where King upped the ante, and while Gaultier started to make an effort close to line, it was too little too late.
Sold through the draft of Kia Ora Stud at the 2024 Inglis Easter yearling sale to her trainers and Bruce Slade’s Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $500,000, Farfetched is the seventh winner from nine to the races out of the G2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes-winning, G1 placed More Than Ready mare More Than Real (USA).
Farfetched comes from an impressive family, being half-sister to the Listed-winning Fastnet Rock mare Miss Debutante, herself the dam of the Waterhouse/Bott trained G1 Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon), as well as the G3 winners Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible) and Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar).
More Than Real’s current 2yo, a full sister to Farfetched was sold to Hollymount Stud and Shane Nichols Racing for $200,000 at last year’s Inglis Easter yearling sale, while the mare foaled a colt by Zoustar last spring before being covered by Captivant.
Having started the season in final style via last Saturday’s G2 Missiles Stakes winner and possible Everest candidate Ninja, Farnan is standing this season for $77,000 (inc. GST) at Vinery Stud.
