Golden Slipper winner Farnan’s first season continues to build steam with his highest priced yearling to date, Farcited becoming winner number four on debut.

Put aside after a midfield effort at the official two-year-old trials in September, the Waterhouse/Bott-trained colt was given two trials leading into his debut run this time. After drawing barrier nine, he was never closer than three to four wide, just off pace, without cover.

It didn’t stop him from chiming in strongly into the straight and, in the final hundred metres, found plenty to get away on the opposition in a most impressive performance under Adam Hyeronimus to beat Steel Knight (Capitalist) by a length with Perle De Chocolat (Astern) third.

Farcited was a $1.2 million purchase for Waterhouse & Bott/Kia Ora/Farnan Partnership/Mt Hallowell Stud from the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale last year.

He’s the first foal of Group One Galaxy winner I Am Excited and hails from a family full of genuinely high-class females, including Group I Thousand Guineas winner Commanding Jewel, and four-time Group I winner and Champion Australian Filly and Champion Australian Older Mare Atlantic Jewel, herself the dam of Hong Kong Champion Russian Emperor.
