Top European stallion Dansili (Danehill) has been chosen as the first mating for champion South African mare Igugu (Galileo-Zarinia, by Intikhab), reportsbloodstock.racingpost.com. The former South African Horse Of The Year will be covered by the son of Danehill in the coming weeks. Igugu was bred in Australia by Kia Ora Stud and sold for R1 million at the 2009 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Sale. The 6YO mare, who was trained by Mike de Kock and is co-owned by Andre MacDonald and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, won 10 of her 18 starts including the Gr1 South African Fillies Classic, Gr1 Woolavington Stakes, and South Africa’s two most prestigious races, the Gr1 Durban July & Gr1 J&B Met. Igugu is from the unraced Irish-bred mare Zarinia (Intikhab), who has also produced Australian Gr3 winner Honorius, and hails from the outstanding Aga Khan family of undefeated Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Zarkava.
